Wide receiver Torry Holt ranks in the top 30 among all-time NFL receivers in touchdowns with 74. But last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he didn't have a touchdown and by Monday, he won't have a team to call home either. Teams aren't allowed to waive players during the offseason until the Monday after the Super Bowl, but the Jaguars have already given Holt advance notice that he won't be back. He is under contract with the Jags through the 2011 season. Holt signed a three-year, $13 million deal with the Jags in April. Along with not scoring, he set career lows in receptions (51) and yards (722). FANTASY ANALYSIS: Holt hopes to continue his career elsewhere, which is why he was given the advance notice. The Jaguars didn't want him to be blindsided by Monday's news. An early rumor is that the Bears, who just hired offensive coordinator Mike Martz, Holt's former head coach in St. Louis, could make an offer to the 33-year-old possible future Hall of Famer. Holt no longer has game-breaking ability and is more of a possession receiver these days. It didn't help the fact that he had an average QB in David Garrard delivering the passes. Holt's addition to the Bears wouldn't mean much for his already decreased fantasy value. But he would make another nice option for Jay Cutler. Holt's departure should mean more playing time -- and possibly a starting gig -- for 2009 rookie Mike Thomas.
